





Dr. Lewis Aptekar is a retired Professor in Counselor Education who worked with San José State University’s Connie L. Lurie College of Education between 1987 and 2016, when he entered retired life. He’s worked in approximately thirty-five countries, but he was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. There, he taught horseback riding at a summer camp in Northern Michigan for seven summers.
Today, Dr. Lewis Aptekar lives in California, where he enjoys his home in the countryside and riding horses on a regular basis.






Dr. Lewis Aptekar, a retired Counselor Education Professor, was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and attended Wayne State University for his Bachelor’s degree. He then graduated from the University of Michigan with his Ph.D. in 1970.
Dr. Aptekar was a Senior Fulbright Specialist/Visiting Professor at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, Francisco Morazán in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in 2002. He’s led a culturally-diverse career that’s allowed him to live and work in approximately thirty-five countries, and author multiple published works on his experiences/observations.
